Undertaken
on behalf of the Division of Tourism and the Governor of Wyoming
in 1993, this project began the process of revamping the state's
tourism industry and changing public perceptions regarding
tourism and environmental sensitivity.
The project included two multi-image productions, several
speeches designed for public officials and tourism leaders,
workshop designs, workshop implementation, attitude research,
and consulting.
The
philosophy behind the project was that
Wyoming
is better suited to
sustainable, nature-intensive, tourism than traditional mass
tourism. The
population, however, had developed a negative attitude toward
environmental issues due to conflicts between conservation
groups and traditional industries of ranching and mineral
extraction. In the
process of designing this campaign Egret surveyed both the
industry and travelers. The
two productions, "There is a Refuge"
and "They Come With Respect" received rave
reviews from both the client and audiences.
This project helped in reestablishing a positive attitude
and pride within
Wyoming
concerning
its natural resource base - and prepared its tourism industry to
better relate to its new environmentally sensitive clientele.
