Belize –
Destination Mangroves
The Minister of Tourism and the Environment of Belize approached Egret Communications with two problems: 1) Belize City had not succeeded in developing as a tourism hub, and 2) a mechanism needed to be created to cause the people of Belize to protect and value their coastal wetlands.  Destination Mangroves was a campaign Egret designed to address the two problems simultaneously, as well as several other important issues affecting Belize and its tourism and conservation communities.  The project involved resource assessment, infrastructure assessment, current hotel and tour operation capability assessment, knowledge level assessment, conducted sessions to bring various components of the tourism and conservation community together and into cooperation, design and implementation of an international conference introducing Belize City and its surrounding environment as a tourism destination, magazine advertising and media interface, publication design, education of tourism industry in international ecotourism standards and expectations, coaching the tourism community on operational procedures and presentation to international travel writers and tour designers.  As a result of this project new regulations were put into place, the protected mangrove areas were increased, and tour operators expanded mangrove tour offerings from Belize City as a way to view wildlife.
